Up-Scale Bargains

So I realize that not everyone one reading this blog is on as tight a budget as I am (as a recent college graduate with 2 part time jobs and loans....) so this one is for you.  Mind you the prices you are about to see... I could afford on a good week. With Summer winding down a lot of end of summer get-togethers picking up, and what better way to be seen at the end of summer than in a cute little sundress?  Bonus to end of summer shopping is that stores are starting to switch to fall/winter fashions, which is a great time to pick up "basics" for cheap... basics being things that are easily mixed and matched in with next years fashions and so on... they are basically timeless. Above we have a bride-to-be (my best friend!) at her bridal shower.  I loved the play with color on this outfit, and although she claims to not be as skill at accessorizing as I am I think she did a pretty sweet job on this one.  The dress in a basic solid color mauve that has been spiced u...

I don't know about you guys out there but I find that most people fore-go fashion when they are out running errands (this the need for sites such as peoplepofwalmart.com) but it is possible to be comfortable and classy all at the same time. Take for example the outfit above (please note that this was worn in June when it's a little cooler... but it's going to start cooling down again soon I promise!) Simple canvas shorts are one of the best ideas to pop up in the past few years as far as I'm concerned.  They are cool, comfy and lose fitting.  There is nothing worse than TIGHT shorts when it's 100 degrees out and you're running around trying to get things done! I also have on here a light colored, light weight Billabong hoodie.  This hoddie has V-cut neck line for extra breathing room and some light details on the back and front in colors that are accented by the purple canvas shorts. I also have a simple gray tank on under the hoodie for when it get a littl...

Lesson 1: How to stretch a Dollar

Image
First off. What I am about to demonstrate is not an easy feat and takes practice and the right weather conditions. In the above picture are 3 items that I purchased at a local thrift store over the weekend. These three items were all bought for under $1. All together.  Here is how it breaks down: Shoes- Vintage $0.50 Earrings- Vintage $0.25 Small bag- Vintage $0.20 Making the grand total with tax.... $0.89 Now as I said things like this don't always happen, it take patience and the right weather.  In this case, 2 of the items, the shoes and the earrings, had been sitting around that place for a while.  Sometimes, when I see something I like at a store but it seems kinds of a silly buy (like lime green wedges) I wait and see it they're still there the next time I stop in... if they're there, they were meant to be mine. If not, well then they weren't.  Sometimes, this holding off can also grant you a price drop... like on another pair of wedges I recently pu...

Red, White and Bold: Memorial Day

Image
What better way to show your patriotism then with and awesome and cost effective red, white and blue outfit?! This outfit took a little bit of searching but I finally found all the pieces and I think it turned out quite nicely.  I found the shorts first and then built it around them. I like to do this a lot, find something I like and then build off of it, sometimes you even find things you weren't looking for... like those earrings! Outfit Breakdown: Nautical Print Shorts: Green Ridge Thrift Store, $1.50 Yes, Green Ridge is a retirement community. This is one of my favorite places to go to find great vintage clothing.  A lot of the people have been holding on to amazing vintage clothes for years and the prices are amazing. Boho Ruffle Top: Old Navy, little girls section clearance- $3.97 Now, I know not everyone out there can shop in the little girls section... but if you can... DO IT. It is a great resource if you know what you're looking for.  If not, the Ladies c...

Because I have boobs, hips, and things to do.

Lets be honest, most normal girls look nothing like the fashion models you see on typical fashion blogs.  I have never been a dancer or a model, I didn't go to fashion school, I just get dressed... most days. Like most girls, I'd like to at least feel like I look cute when I step out my front door but I have a limited income and I don't have twig like legs, so even if I find a blog or outfit I like, it might look awful on me, which has inspired this blog. The older I get the more accepting of my body I have become.  I know I'm skinny, but I'm 4 ft. 10.  I am no super model by any means. My hips think it's time for me to have babies (which it is NOT) and my boobs are right behind them.  Not to mention, I am a recent college graduate and am feeling the squeeze of impending college loans closing in, so I'm not going to be swinging by my local (insert fancy store name of your choice here) anytime soon to pick up the latest fashions. So if you're like me...
