Falling in to Place

Image
This outfit is one that I worked on for a while to get all the pieces together.. and then again the over all look just fell right in to place. I had been wanting a jean dress for a while and was not having any luck. I had this idea for an outfit with my new brown boots and a pair of gray tights that I have had for a while. They're a really nice medium heather gray, and heavy, great for cooler weather. All I needed was the jean dress. So more recently I fond an app called Vinted that allows you to buy, sell and swap clothing with other app users. And that is where I found my last piece, the dress! It's not a denim like I had originally envisioned but it worked out almost better. The dark blue of this dress allowed for me to tie in the blue and gold cashmere scarf my brother brought me home from Israel, which tied in the camel colored cardi. All I needed to do was top it off with a gold accent bracelet and my vintage Coach bag. This outfit practically built itself! Come...

Basic Blend

Image
Something that comes up on every fashion show and every fashion blog ever are the "basics", things that every girl should have in the back of her closest that she can pull out anytime she may need them. You know, the black dress pants, the white T-shirt, the camel cardi... you see where this is going... the little black dress. With this outfit I took some of my "basic" items that hang out in my closet and mixed them in to one comfy and casual outfit for a warm September Sunday. And really, this outfit consists of only 4 items, a striped racer back maxi, jean jacket, black sandals and a yellow beaded necklace. None of these items are particularly stunning on their own, but when brought together they have a simple and yet eloquent feel. And  you may already own this outfit that if you have any version of these 4 items hanging in your closet. Even a maxi skirt and basic T-shirt would work! The price breakdown: Maxi, PacSun: $15 Jean Jacket, ...

A Short Trip & Fall

Image
So I had a different outfit all lined up for the next post... and then fall happened. Not to mention a small shopping trip with my ever thrifty mother as a birthday gift, and so TA DA! The featured outfit was born.   While shopping, my mom and I discussed something that may be an issue for my generation, tell me if I'm wrong, but I seem to own more black and grey clothing than anything else. I pick things off the rack, black and grey. I have to FORCE myself to pick things that are colorful and different from everything else in my closet. And so, with my mom as my shopping wing-man if you will, I chose this shirt... okay my psychedelic raised-in-the-70s mom picked this shirt.     Seriously though, this shirt is so far removed from anything I own... and it only slightly reminded me of Austin Powers. Aside from that, however, is the fact that this shirt is versatile. I tried this shirt on with brown pants, navy pants and black pants... and althoug...

Smarty Pants

In my last post we looked at business casual. Today I'm on the same topic but on the more fun and funky side!   Being in the print media/design field I not only want to look professional but also creative when I'm at work. In this outfit I accomplished a funky look with some bright colored denim, my new nerdy glasses, chunky jewelry and, oh yes, a sweater vest.     Now, of course this outfit would be just fine with out the sweater vest but for me the vest added an extra layer of formality and neediness I was looking for to tie in with the glasses.   I also wanted to give you a close up on the necklace. It is so versatile, using black and brown tones and goes with an array of outfits.   This outfit contained a lot of light colors (the coral, the light denim and the light camel sweater) and this darker chunky necklace helped me tie in the darker glasses and the dark tones in the shoes. I like to think of accessorizing like d...

Keeping is Business Casual

So it's been awhile since I've posted but, I got a new job and it is cause for new outfits! That is while, of course, still getting the most bang for my hard earned cash.       Today's outfit was designed for comfort and durability for my days activities. I also included the watch I've had since I graduated college that my lovely fashion savvy brother continues to insist I need to wear!   The pricing break down: Jeans (crops for this short girl!): $11.89  Target CLEARANCE Shirt: FREE Basic white T from Old Navy Sweater Vest: $1.99 Kmart CLEARANCE Shoes: $7.99 Kmart SALE Watch: GIFT! Which makes the lesson of the day CLEARANCE! Some things on way marked down seasonal clearance are usable year round when you spend your day in a climate controlled environment, like my sweater vest. And for my short self, the CLEARANCE crop jeans work perfectly as regular jeans, and as the weather gets cooler and the  boots com out... no one will be t...

Up-Scale Bargains

So I realize that not everyone one reading this blog is on as tight a budget as I am (as a recent college graduate with 2 part time jobs and loans....) so this one is for you.  Mind you the prices you are about to see... I could afford on a good week. With Summer winding down a lot of end of summer get-togethers picking up, and what better way to be seen at the end of summer than in a cute little sundress?  Bonus to end of summer shopping is that stores are starting to switch to fall/winter fashions, which is a great time to pick up "basics" for cheap... basics being things that are easily mixed and matched in with next years fashions and so on... they are basically timeless. Above we have a bride-to-be (my best friend!) at her bridal shower.  I loved the play with color on this outfit, and although she claims to not be as skill at accessorizing as I am I think she did a pretty sweet job on this one.  The dress in a basic solid color mauve that has been spiced u...

I don't know about you guys out there but I find that most people fore-go fashion when they are out running errands (this the need for sites such as peoplepofwalmart.com) but it is possible to be comfortable and classy all at the same time. Take for example the outfit above (please note that this was worn in June when it's a little cooler... but it's going to start cooling down again soon I promise!) Simple canvas shorts are one of the best ideas to pop up in the past few years as far as I'm concerned.  They are cool, comfy and lose fitting.  There is nothing worse than TIGHT shorts when it's 100 degrees out and you're running around trying to get things done! I also have on here a light colored, light weight Billabong hoodie.  This hoddie has V-cut neck line for extra breathing room and some light details on the back and front in colors that are accented by the purple canvas shorts. I also have a simple gray tank on under the hoodie for when it get a littl...
